Chinwe Oniah is a documentary filmmaker + producer and arts educator based in the San Francisco Bay Area. Her work explores cultural identity, music, and the preservation of artistic and community traditions, with a focus on Afro-Brazilian arts and diasporic cultural movements. Through film, education, and community-based programming, she creates projects that connect storytelling, performance, and cultural history.
She’s written for KQED, California Magazine, Blavity as well as produced and directed short documentaries for KQED. She’s a teaching artist with Destiny Art Center in Oakland and manages Capoeira Bay Area, an organization focused on the promotion and conservation the Afro-Brazilian art form, capoeira.
